IRIXSamples benchmarks

IRIXSamples benchmarks

I recently installed IRIXSamples on 2 SGI's:

Usually the first one is used for tests, trying out and Dvt and the second one is used among others of its kind to run CAD and simulation software.

1-Indigo2 XZ Extreme R4000 200MHz IRIX 6.5.5 Java2 JDK 1.2.2, 200Mb Virtual swap , 428Mb physical swap ,128Mb RAM.

2-Octane R12000 300MHz IRIX 6.5.5 Java2 JDK 1.2.2 39Mb Virtual swap , 900Mb physical swap , 1Gb RAM.

I noticed:

- Not much of a difference between the 2 Workstations in perf.

- The graphic regeneration for panels ( panel area damage restoring ) and entities manipulations were quite slow compared to many CAD/UNIX Workstations softwares that I would be kind not to mention.

- Not fast enough in that state to be used in a productive environment.

I believe that could be improved significantly, thinking that system's setups are not fit to get the best of Java.

If you have any comment, please let me know.

By the time I'm testing the complete package OPEN CASCADE trough compilations on:

ULTRA 1 Sparc Creator 3D 128Mo Solaris 2.6.

PIII 600Mhz 64Mo Graphic Card 3D Prophet Linux Mandrake 7.1.

I'will tell more you about it in the near future ( I just got aware that the JAVA version I use on Solaris is: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0-RC, mixed mode), that's maybe why I get a LibXm.so.4 error ( See my previous msg ).

Regards and thanks in advance
