[OPINION] Give us your opinion !

Hello Open CASCADE users.

Since December 7th, your are a lot to connect and to use the Open CASCADE forum. I am very pleased to see this.

In order to make the use of the forum easier, we could cut the forum in differents themes. I'd like to know your opinion about that. Can you answer to the following questions ?

- Do you agree that we should cut the forum in different themes or do you prefer to keep one forum with all themes ?

- If you prefer to cut the forum, do you have ideas about the themes we could create ? Can you list them ?

If you are interested by this discussion, please answer in the forum. And do not hesitate to share your opinion with others.

Maybe the forum could change to a platform using NNTP as in Usenet. This way each subscriber could use her preferred newsreader. Also it's easy to read news offline, get new articles quickly, archive/ignore threads, and full text search articles.

Indeed, it is a very good idea, considering all advantages of a newsgroup as previously said....

Hello.

Using NNTP is a very good idea. As you know, creating a newsgroup under a usenet hierarchy need to organize a vote for the creation of the newsgroup. I don't remember exactly how many votes we need.

I could investigate in this way. It is possible to prepare the votes by using the Open CASCADE forum and mailing list.

Has anybody of you, already created a newsgroup on usenet ?

Please post all your responses in this forum.

AFAIK, you can create newsgroups on an NNTP server in the internet without any further notice. The groups of course are available only on THIS server. INPRISE/BORLAND e. g. do it with hundreds of newsgroups. Only if you want your newsgroup to become part of Usenet a specific procedure has to be applied. If a group is in the Usenet it is replicated to all Usenet servers around the globe.

As a starting point you may want to look at

Hello.

It's sure that a newsgroups created on usenet under the comp. hierarchy would be more interesting.

First of all, the usenet hierarchy is maintained on a lot of servers automatically, and it can be accessed from web sites like deja.com. Users who have firewalls often can't access to newsgroups directly.

Hi !

Yes I think it would be a good idea to split the forum up.

- General questions - Installation and usage - API (C++) - API (Java)

Maybe the two last ones should be split up in different areas, one for each part of Open CASACDE (Foundation classes, ocaf, visualization and son on), I am not sure about this though.
