problem viewing PDF user manual

I'm having problems viewing one of the PDF formatted user manuals. The file is fcug.pdf. When I view certain parts of the document, I get the error message: "Unable to extract the embedded font 'COAOLC+Lucida.Console083'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." Indeed, some of the text just shows as dots: ".......". I'm running the latest version of Acrobat reader, 4.05c. My OS is NT 4.0 with latest service patch. Has any one else had this problem and is there any way to work around it?

Etienne,

I downloaded fcug.pdf again but it still has the same problem. I also uninstalled Adobe Acrobat, downloaded it from www.adobe.com, and reinstalled it. When opening fcug.pdf, Acrobat displays the message "This file is damaged but is being repaired." This message goes away and the document appears to be OK but when I scroll down to about page 21, it displays the error message about the font and text displays as ..... characters.

What version of Adobe Acrobat are you using? What computer system and operating system are you on? Could you please send me your copy of fcug.pdf that works for you to my E-mail address?

Thanks, Paul

Sorry to say this, but there is something wrong with the files on the web-site. I have tried with Acrobat 3.0, 4.0, xpdf and I get the same problem with all this files on Linux, Windows98, WindowsNT and Windows 2000. and I tried this with the documentation tar ball and also by trying to open the pdf file in the on-line documentation.

Etienne Cocquebert sent me his fcug.pdf file. His version is slightly larger than the version that can currently be downloaded from the server. More importantly, it doesn't have the font encoding problem. If any of you are having problems viewing this PDF file, E-mail me and I'll send you the good version.
